Richard Douglas Shoemate, also known by many as “Tiny”, a loving son, brother, fiancé, and friend to all passed away on June 13, 2024, at his residence in Roscoe, TX.
He was born on May 8, 1968, in Monahans, TX. Doug dedicated his life to serving his community through his positions as a Deputy Sheriff, Chief Deputy Sheriff, Certified Jailer, Police Officer, volunteer firefighter, and an active member of the Chief Deputies of Texas Association. He leaves behind a legacy of bravery and selflessness in the face of adversity.
Doug’s dedication to serving others led him to a career in law enforcement where his caring nature left a lasting impact on all those he encountered. His innate empathy and teddy bear heart guided his actions, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he served. His mom called him a gentle giant with a teddy bear heart.
Doug’s love for his family knew no bounds, with special moments shared at family gatherings that were cherished by all. He had a soft spot for children and senior citizens, always willing to extend a helping hand whenever it was needed. His passion for spending time outdoors led him to enjoy hunting and fishing at his friend Mike Browne’s ranch, a place where unforgettable memories were made.
Doug will be deeply missed by his mother and father, Willie (Shoemate) and Don Davidson; fiancé, Sherrie Brown; her daughter, Kristen (Bryan) Robertson and their twins, Weston and Brooks; sister, Kristi (Chris) Banyai; nieces, Lou and Bridd-Leigh; nephews Jack and Sam, Teresa (Mark) Miller, Doneice (Walt) Scott, Donna Kay (Kelly) Valladao, and Eden (Jesse) Noah; and brother, Donnie (Amiee) Davidson, and his ever loyal companion, his Weimaraner, Bevo. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family and numerous friends and colleagues.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lee Shoemate.
